Queen Scorpions Prepare to Face Guinea-Bissau in FIFA Friendly

The Gambia National Women’s football team, Queen Scorpions, are scheduled for a friendly international with Guinea-Bissau slated for Saturday 16th September, 2017 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

The earlier planned friendly with Cape Verde was called off due to technical problems and thus the GFF Executive proceeded to search for a potential alternative in Guinea Bissau.

The Queen Scorpions have been gearing up with regular training for two months bracing up for the practice match which is inching closer.

Head Coach Mariama Sowe said the friendly is part of their technical preparations ahead of The Gambia’s first ever participation in the qualifiers for the 2018 Total Women Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to begin in February 2018.

GFF Women’s Football Coordinator Sainey Sissohore said the friendly will allow the technicians to to gauge the standard of the team before taking part in the qualifiers as according to her ‘qualifying matches are always competitive and we want a formidable side to represent us’.

This will be the second international friendly engagement under the watch of the newly formed Events Management Committee (EMC) after the Gambia VS Mali CHAN Qualifier at home in Banjul. The EMC will take charge of logistical arrangements for the successful staging of The Gambia’s national team home matches and GFF Grand Finals. The Committee is headed by veteran football manager Willy Abraham of Real De Banjul FC.
