Women’s National Team Head Coach Upbeat Ahead of First Ever FIFA Friendly

The Gambia Women’s National Football Team Coach Mariama Bom Sowe on Thursday September 14th said the Queen Scorpions are poised to make a good performance against Guinea Bissau when her side squares off against the visitors at the weekend.

The friendly match is meant to prepare the Queen Scorpions for the Women Cup of Nations Qualifiers in 2018 and the Queens are eager to return to international stage after their impressive showing against Casa Sport last year in Jarra Soma.

Sowe said the preparation has not been easy though since according to her ‘selecting a team is always difficult but with the help of my staff and knowing who the players are, we were able to finalise our selection and then continued the regular training’. She said the selected players are the best in the domestic League and is confident of their abilities.

Coach Sowe said the GFF has provided the team with all the required logistics and ‘as at now we don’t have any problems at the camp’.

Team captain Penda Bah said her peers are ready for the weekend game and ‘we are prepared mentally, physically and technically and just waiting for the day to come’. She further appealed to the general public to show up in numbers at the game and cheer on the girls.

Meanwhile Guinea Bissau have finally arrived in town on Thursday September 14th.

The match kicks off on Saturday September 16th at the Independence Stadium in Bakau at 4:30pm. The GFF has announced that entry into the Independence Stadium is absolutely free.
