Queen Scorpions Enter the History Books

The Gambia reigns over Bissau after the country’s National female team (Queen Scorpions) completed a brace over Guinea Bissau at full time in a friendly international match on Saturday September 16th.

Goals from Adama Tamba (Red Scorpions) and Isatou Jallow (Interior) sealed victory for the Queen Scorpions. Bissau piled on the pressure though but could not find a way through the Gambian defense.

‘The girls played very well and we’re lucky we scored the two goals because Bissau is a very good side’, Gambian Coach Mariama Bom Sowe said at post match Press Conference while her counterpart Lassana Kassama said even though the Gambian team was more compact his girls have put up a good show but was quick to say ‘we are also building a team and this test match will help us very well’.

The Gambia is set to play in the African Women’s Cup of Nations 2018 and also preparing her U-17 side for the FIFA World Cup Preliminary Qualifier to Sierra Leone in October.

Meanwhile the Football Federation on Sunday announced that it has called off the proposed second friendly with Guinea Bissau involving its U-17 team due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control. The U-17 team is paired with Sierra Leone for the preliminary phase of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Uruguay, 2018. The Gambia will travel to Freetown for the 1st leg of the match schedule for 13th October while the return leg will be played in Banjul a week later precisely October 20th.
