GFF Monthly Awards – Men’s First Division Nominees Announced for Dec-Jan

Following the completion of the Week 8 fixtures, the nominees for the Coach and Player of the Month for the December-January period (Week 5 to Week 8) have been announced as follows:-

Men’s First Division Coach of the Month Nominees

Sulayman Kuyateh, Gamtel
Following his Coach of the Month win last month, Kuyateh is nominated once again for continuing the consistent performances for his new team. Having overcome title rivals Real de Banjul in a tense game, he has continued to preserve the only unbeaten run in the league so far and maintained their place at the top of the table. Whilst the side is built on a strong defence the goals have also started to flow as was shown in the recent 4-2 win over Banjul United.

Jane Joof, Fortune
Returns to the nominations list once again following a consistent month of difficult matches. Whilst remaining unbeaten, Joof has received praise for assembling a young and energetic team that always works hard on the field of play. They finished the month in second place behind Gamtel and if this form continues, you can expect to see Fortune amongst the title contenders at the end of the season.

Sanna Darboe, Tallingding United
Leading a team with less resources than other rivals is a major challenge itself, Darboe deserves credit for steering his charges to an unbeaten month. To tackle a fixture list containing GPA, GAF, Fortune and to emerge with 5 points from those fixtures takes some doing. The month included a victory against 2016 champions GPA, a draw with 2017 champions GAF and a draw against current 2nd place Fortune, a truly admirable record.

Men’s First Division Player of the Month Nominees

Yahya Ndong, Gamtel
A consistent performer in the league and known for his hard work up front, Ndong has led the line as Gamtel have surged to the top of the table. He always has a knack of scoring headers and continued in that vein against Banjul United but his work-rate and effectiveness on the ball has also inspired his team-mates. Ndong always finds himself in national team selections and on this form it’s clear to see why.

Yankuba Sabally, Fortune
As the rock of the defense, the role of goalkeepers is increasingly more important in modern day football. Sabally has been the foundation for the performances of Fortune with his composure from the back and he is also likely to make some great saves during games. The youngster has been the catalyst for his team to go out and impose themselves during their games and is set for a bright future.

Foday Seckan, Tallingding Utd
As a defender it can be hard to stand out but Seckan’s outstanding performances at right-back have helped his team to give opponents a tough time. As well as carrying out his defensive duties, Seckan has also popped with a goal and assist and has shown himself to be a vital player in the rise of Tallingding United.

Sulayman Kuyateh of Gamtel and Abdoulie Sarr of Banjul United were last month’s winners for Coach and Player of the Month award respectively.

Men’s Second Division nominees will be announced on Monday.
