GFF Receives Football Donation from FAR Limited

The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) in collaboration with Gambia’s Petroleum and Oil Drilling Company FAR limited on Wednesday January 31st jointly presented football materials to ten local clubs across the Greater Banjul Area at a ceremony held at the Petroleum House in Bijilo.

The materials purchased by FAR under the guidance of the GFF are intended to help the local clubs in their boost to advance football development in The Gambia.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Petroleum and Energy Hon Fafa Sanyang first congratulated the beneficiaries for been the lucky ones to receive what he called ‘the first consignment’. He further thanked FAR for the kind gesture and said under his Ministry, all steps would be maximized as part of their corporate social responsibility to take part in efforts to develop sports in The Gambia. ‘Sports is a big industry and should unite people for a common purpose. It’s a venture where one can be healthy and as well be wealthy. I want to thank the GFF for the fact that they have taken time to come over here and be part of this program which manifests their willingness and participation in this venture’.

Earlier on, the CEO of FAR and Country Manager Abdoulie Sallah both congratulated and thanked the recipients for the gifts and said it is hope that the football items would be put into good use. ‘We are very interested in sports particularly football and it is our view that as a company, sports is one way of uniting and forging partnership together’ Sallah added. He said the initiative started in Senegal where the Company made significantly gains in the sporting circles and thus would replicate it in The Gambia.

GFF 2nd Vice President Ebou Faye also thanked FAR for the kind gesture. He said for the fact that the Company has consulted the GFF for Technical advice on the matter is a testimony that the Federation is willing to work with them at all times. Mr Faye said ‘this is a way of complementing our efforts in football development’. He appealed that hence more of this gesture is in the pipeline, it should in the future be spread across the country hence according to him ‘Football is played throughout the length and breath of the Gambia’. He thanked the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy for the collaboration and assured them of the Football leadership’s position in their endeavors to support Football development in The Gambia.

Ten Clubs (Eight Male and Two Female) from the Communities of Banjul and KM benefited from the items which include footballs, training bibs, and cones.
